Rediscovering Food, Restoring Communities

ReFood connects people with surplus food to the neighbours, kitchens and charities who can use it — so good food ends up on tables, not in the bin.

Food in your area

See all available food →

Open a listing to see the pickup window, allergens, storage and packaging. You’ll need a free account to request food — the provider chooses who collects it.

How it works

Claim or share food in four steps

01

Share your surplus

List the food, its weight in kg, your area, the pickup window and how long it’s available.

02

People request it

Verified organisations and neighbours raise their hand — as many as like.

03

The provider chooses

They pick the best fit. Only then are contact details unlocked, and only for those two.

04

Collect & complete

Arrange pickup directly, mark it complete and the kilograms are counted.

Privacy by design

Contact details stay hidden until it’s a match

Requesting food never exposes anyone’s phone, email or address. Details unlock only when the provider assigns the food — and only for those two people.

  • Hidden from everyone else — always
  • Requests don’t reveal contact info
  • Released the moment status becomes Assigned
Transport & pickup

ReFood doesn’t deliver — you arrange pickup directly

Every listing shows a pickup window and whether partial quantities can be taken. Some providers tag their listing “Transport assistance needed” — that means they’d appreciate help moving the food, not that a delivery service is available.

  • Pickup window shown on every listing
  • Allergens, storage and packaging listed in the details
  • The “listed until” date is when the listing closes, not a best-before date

Who it’s for

Everyone has a role

Food providers

Farms, cafés, bakeries and households with good food they can’t use in time. Share it in two minutes.

Recipient organisations

Kitchens, schools, shelters and charities. Get verified, request food and post what you need.

Volunteers & neighbours

Join volunteer harvests with Perfectly Imperfect, or share what you have — one account does both.

Our inspiration. ReFood draws on Perfectly Imperfect, a New Zealand initiative that rescues “imperfect” produce rejected for cosmetic reasons. We’ve widened that idea to all kinds of surplus food — it should be valued for what’s in it, not how it looks.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Is ReFood free to use?

Yes. ReFood doesn’t process payments and isn’t a marketplace — food is shared, not sold.

Who can see my contact details?

Only you and the person you’re matched with, and only after the food is assigned. Requests alone never reveal contact details.

Can I both share and request food?

Absolutely. One account can do both.

Does ReFood arrange transport?

No. Collection is arranged directly between participants. A listing tagged “Transport assistance needed” means the provider would like help moving the food — ReFood itself doesn’t offer delivery.

How do I volunteer for a harvest (gleaning)?

Volunteer harvests are listed on the Volunteer harvests page. Each event links to Perfectly Imperfect’s sign-up, where you register and are approved as a volunteer.

How long does sign-up take?

Creating an account takes about a minute. Individuals can share and request food once they’ve verified their email. Organisations create the account first, then complete verification by uploading their documents — we email you the outcome.
